Who we are

Work in Action is an employment and skills provider providing opportunities and support for unemployed people across Newham and Surrounding boroughs. We aspire to ensure that every user has a positive experience and a genuine opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Our Director of Employment & Skills Programmes has over 20 years’ experience of programme delivery in the sector. He has successfully led on a range of employment and skills contracts, including the Work Programme, the Troubled Families Programme, the Skills Support for the Unemployed Programme (SSU), local authority & GLA contracts, such as the Workplace Hub project, Get Working, the Job shop Community Outreach project, & others.
We are a team of experienced practitioners looking to work and build in local communities with local people.
Our causes
We work with individuals who have struggled to gain employment, & those with little or no family support or social networks who may also struggle with other issues such as homelessness, substance addiction, mental health, and offending.
Our approach is to encourage service users to develop employability & life skills that will allow them to live independently so that they are able to change their lives for the long term.
All of our programmes offer tailored one-to-one support for up to two years, & ensure that our clients have a plan in place to achieve their aspirations & their goals for a better quality of life, whether this be via working with us directly or with our supportive network of partners and sign posting as needed.

Our Vision
Anyone who needs our services regardless of background, ability, or start in life, should have the same opportunities to ultimately reach their full potential to change their lives at any stage in their lives. Since our core believe is that we should never curb our ambition.
Our Mission
To provide our service users with fully inclusive experiences and opportunities to flourish with full support to help them overcome any challenges they experience in order to ensure that they are genuinely able to succeed, so that they can make a difference not only to their lives but to those around them.

What we offer
We offer a range of innovative projects and interventions for both younger and older adults currently unemployed and looking to get back into work including, work experience, apprenticeships, work trials (with a variety of employers) & training, ultimately leading to full employment.

Never curb your ambition
Our ambitions are boundless, limitless, and ageless, and we should never allow ourselves to think otherwise.
Whether it be as an older service user, you are made to feel that you are too old to take on that new role, take up that new position, or build that new career. Or, as a younger client, you are labelled as irresponsible, unreliable, or feckless, & where lack of opportunity, or a chance to progress has followed as a consequence. Let’s break down these barriers, ‘kick the ceiling off our thinking’ & look at the ambition that drives us all, & let’s see where the pieces tumble.
Our holistic approach allows us to work in a certain way with our service users. We believe that each service user is unique with differing strengths, character traits, and needs. Regarding work experience for example, we understand that service users based on their current circumstances may initially want to gain work experience in a more relaxed & less challenging environment, whilst still learning valuable skills, which is why we offer work placements in both the voluntary and commercial sector.
Service users in this category can then learn and grow in a more comfortable environment, building up their skills and confidence levels gradually at their own pace until they are ready to take on the rigours & benefits of a commercial work placement.
Additionally, we offer apprenticeships, working directly with employers from a range of employment sectors according to the needs of the individual, with the ultimate aim of securing full employment in a step-by-step process which includes subsequent & ongoing support for both the employee and the employer.
